Recommendations for buying a used boat
#1
Hi guys,
Please planning to upgrade my Lund boat to a bass boat, as now I have two options.
the first one is a 2004 Ranger 520vs with 2014 225 motor, the boat is in really great shape, come with 2 Lowrance 12 HDS Gen3, 112 Ultrex, and one 8' power pole.
the second one is a 2014 Ranger Z-118C with 2014 150 Evinrude motor, ULTREX 80 LB, HUMMINBIRD ONIX 8 CI SI and ONIX10CI SI, also a GARMIN GPSMAP 942XSV plus PANOPTIX LIVESCOPE.
they both has around 110 to 130 hours on motor, and price is pretty much the same around 38k. I mainly fish near muskoka area, sometimes peterborough, won't fish in the great lakes, I do join some tournaments every year.
any recommendations would be appreciated.
Thanks

Ben

You can have a marina check it out, compression test, bore scope, etc. You can go to the next step and hire a marine surveyor and they will do a full boat inspection, checking the hull moisture content, fuel delivery, electrical system, some would think that it’s a bit overkill. On the older boat you could check for Hull blisters where the bunks sit which requires lifting the boat off the bunks, epa changed in 2004 to what boat manufacturers could use in their gel coats and there were many years where the boats would get blisters. I would be a fan of the newer boat, I have a 2003 triton and with most of the boat original, I’m now going through and pulling new wiring that has been nibbled or chafed. You can look at a boat and notice how the previous took care of it. Good luck
